Dolphins, Koalas & Islands
This seven day adventure gives you a taste of just a few of the attractions in and around Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city. Brisbane has a tropical landscape, and a climate that lures people all year round. From Brisbane, we take the ferry to Moreton Island, an island wilderness with sparkling clear water and sandy white beaches, where you can hand feed bottlenose dolphins, and explore the sand dunes, lagoons and creeks, swim, snorkel and fish. Next we head to the beautiful Glass House Mountains for our farm stay, with opportunities for horse riding, bush walks, feeding the animals and even boomerang throwing. Returning to Brisbane, we visit the Koala Sanctuary where koalas can be cuddled, kangaroos hand-fed, and Australian wildlife encountered. Please note that the child price is only applicable for children under 12 sharing a room with 2 adults, with a maximum of one child per room. If children are in a separate room, or if 1 child is sharing with only 1 adult, then the adult price applies.
Glaciers, Fiords & Wilderness
New Zealand is a country of glacial mountains, native forests, deserted beaches and crystal clear lakes. Our South Island family adventure begins in Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island, where we visit the Antarctic Centre and Orana Wildlife Park. The world famous TranzAlpine train then takes us from one coast of the South Island of New Zealand to the other, through a spectacular scenery of gorges, river valleys, the Southern Alps and rainforest. We try our hand at gold panning in Shantytown, before continuing to the Franz Josef Glacier with options such as glacier walks, a helihike, and ice-climbing. Next stop Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world, where we visit the original bungy site, take the gondola and luge on Bob’s Peak, and cruise on the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak Sheep Station, still leaving some free time for other activities. We continue to Fiordland, exploring the Te Anau Glow-worm caves, with a free day for options such as the Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise, Milford Sound Cruise, day walk or kayaking. A night is spent with a host family on a farm stay in Canterbury, before we regroup for a visit to a Maori Village, with haka lessons and a night wildlife viewing tour before spending our last night back in Christchurch. Please note that the child price is only applicable for children under 12 sharing a room with 2 adults. If children are in a separate room, or if 1 child is sharing with only 1 adult, then the adult price applies.
Kokoda Track
The Kokoda Track, once the scene of bitter fighting between the Australians and Japanese during World War II, is now one of the world’s great treks and a pilgrimage for many. The trail runs 96 kilometres between Kokoda and Ower’s Corner, crossing rugged mountain ranges of Papua New Guinea, through rainforests and across mountain streams and rivers. Along the way are unspoilt villages, abandoned villages, and a village relocated due to fears of sorcery. There are battle sites, monuments, memorials and weapons pits to explore, and even the chance to meet a “Fuzzy Wuzzy” Angel. Although the Kokoda Trail is an arduous trek for the fit and adventurous, it is a rewarding challenge, one which will inspire you, as you get an insight into the legends of Kokoda and the hardships they had to endure in their battle to save Australia.
